Communicability Global is supporting the University of Rwanda College of Medicine and Health Sciences to develop a BSc curriculum in Speech and Language Therapy / Audiology to enable the country to train its own communication disability specialists and develop future rehabilitative services. The four year course will train Rwandan students to become specialists in communication and hearing assessment and intervention.
Currently there are only five Speech and Language Therapists in Rwanda. Three are ex-patriates from Europe and two are Rwandan, trained in Uganda and the USA. It will take a long time to train enough local specialists to serve the needs of everyone with communication disability in the country, but we have to start somewhere!
Communicability Global is offering pro bono services for this work in order to enhance the capacity of the Rwandan health and education services of the future
